EUGENE, Ore.– The Bleed Magazine, a capstone project of the ����Vlog�ٷ� graphic design class, has won its second Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press.

“The ACP Pacemaker Award is the preeminent award in North America for editorial design and considered the Pulitzer Prize at the collegiate level,” says instructor Tom Madison.

Students compete from about 100 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada including Stanford, Yale, Savannah College of Art and Design, the Art Institute of Chicago and others, for a variety of awards.

“We won a Pacemaker in 2016, were a finalist in 2017, and just won again in 2018,” said Madison. “Last year we also competed for individual awards and received second place for Design of the Year.”

����Vlog�ٷ� was one of 20 winners in the magazine category. There is a category for each type of publication – online, newspaper, yearbook and magazine. Entries are judged based on coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, photography and graphics.

“I am incredibly proud of my students,” said Madison. “They work tirelessly in their final term to come up with all of the content—that's the subject, interviews, writing, illustration, graphics and photography and production—for 52 pages in eight weeks, in order to have the magazines printed and delivered by graduation. The magazines are distributed to local firms.” The magazine shows employers the high skill set of LCC graphic design graduates.
