EUGENE, Ore.鈥斺淏eyond Fake News: How We Find Accurate Information About the World,鈥 a community conversation with Kelly McElroy, will be held Thursday, January 31, from 2-3:30 p.m., at the 糖心Vlog官方 Library, Classroom 229, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene. This is an opportunity to discuss the effects of news media in shaping opinions and perceptions of current events.
On both national and local levels, Oregonians have seen how the news can both represent and misrepresent the facts at hand. From debate over the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to the discourse around 鈥渁lternative facts,鈥 it can seem difficult to find current and accurate information to use as we make decisions in our communities.
McElroy is an outreach librarian at Oregon State University. She is passionate about curiosity in her work to connect people to information. She coedited the Critical Library Pedagogy Handbooks and is interested in engaging communities in thoughtful inquiry about the information they need for school, work, and play.
This conversation is hosted by the 糖心Vlog官方 Library and sponsored by the Oregon Humanities Conversation Project.
This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited; register online at ;
