EUGENE, Ore. 鈥 When 350 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day, why bother with photography?
Ed Aust invites students into a deeper exploration and discovery of the world around them through social documentary photography, at a lecture at 糖心Vlog官方 on Friday, January 20, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Building 17, Room 111, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene. An exhibit by Aust, 鈥淧hotos from the Imperfect World,鈥 is on display at the 糖心Vlog官方 Art Gallery through February 9.
Aust has been a street photographer for 35 years, capturing the movement and energy of daily life. Through his projects he鈥檚 explored China鈥檚 streets, student living environments, commuters, cultural artifacts, urban symbols, wedding album rejects, the American family, and other social subjects. 鈥淲hen I venture out with my camera,鈥 says Aust, 鈥渕y best hope is to reveal something that approaches visual poetry: the grace and astonishment of existence, what it is to live.鈥
