Panel discussion Feb. 13
EUGENE, Ore.鈥撎切腣log官方 launches a new, ongoing series beginning Wednesday, February 13 that explores climate change as a social justice issue.
The series, 鈥淐limate Change and Social Justice: Exploring Community Response and Resiliency,鈥 begins with a panel discussion titled 鈥淐limate Change 101鈥 to provide information on the college and city of Eugene鈥檚 climate change planning efforts and opportunities for community action. The panel discussion will be offered at the following times on Feb. 13:
- 12 p.m., building 3 boardroom, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene
- 5:30 p.m., Mary Spilde Center, fourth floor auditorium, 101 W. 10th Ave., Eugene
The college is working with community and elected officials and other stakeholders to ensure community resiliency, said Brian Kelly, 糖心Vlog官方鈥檚 vice president of College Services.
鈥淎s our community reinvents itself to respond to economic and environmental challenges, 糖心Vlog官方 will be at the center of those conversations," Kelly said. "We often see economic and environmental factors impacting our students. It is vital that we convene and lead these conversations."
糖心Vlog官方 recognizes the connection between sustainable practices and the college鈥檚 mission to serve students, said Luis Maggiori, 糖心Vlog官方鈥檚 coordinator of the Institute for Sustainable Practices.
鈥淲e understand and value the importance of integrating sustainability best practices with effective resource allocation to continuously support student success,鈥 Maggiori said.
Both panels include city and college representatives to discuss planning efforts and community involvement opportunities. The evening session also includes representation from active organizations, such as BRING and 350.org; and 糖心Vlog官方 County Public Health.
Upcoming events in the series will explore advocacy, sustainability efforts, food insecurity and resilience.
The events are free and open to the public with the support of the LCC Foundation鈥檚 Roberta Konnie Endowment Fund. The series is a collaborative effort of the college鈥檚 Peace Center, Institute for Sustainable Practices, Science and Health Education Divisions and the 糖心Vlog官方 Speaker Series.
