Faculty/Staff: Brian Bird, Gary Bricher, Gerry Meenaghan, Larry Scott, Paul Wilkins. ABSENT Members: Nate Chapman, Kevin Crissman, Luke Kincaid, Les Moore, Phillip Robles, Connor Salisbury, Dale Smith. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES Otto Radke as chair called the meeting to order at 3:38pm in Bldg 16, Room 211, and welcomed all. Since Larry Scott was to be a half hour late, the awarding of certificates of appreciation was moved to the end of the agenda. The Winter 2013 minutes were reviewed and approved. II. RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS Paul Wilkins indicated that the department is looking for new advisory committee members since several members terms are expiring, and asked if there are recommendations from the current members, or if there are particular areas that are not represented on the committee that we should be searching for. John Barnum offered four business cards of members of Silicon Shire as possible members. These people expressed concern that there werent technology classes downtown and they were desperate for interns. There was a brief discussion on the pros and cons of CIT holding classes downtown, for example, scheduling and lab room issues. Mark Davis indicated that Eugene Maker Space might be an organization to reach out to for members because they are community minded. Gerry Meenaghan and others mentioned Chamber of Commerce, Silicon Shire, Concentric Sky, Feynman Group, Palo Alto Software, 3Cinteractive, City of Springfield, University of Oregon, and Lunar Logic as possible sources for new members. Gary Bricher mentioned that we are losing five members so it would be nice to have at least five more, but ten would be better. Several indicated it would be better for the advisory committee to be larger. III. COMMUNITY SHARING Members were asked to share newsworthy items from their company including changes at their organization and hiring. Mark Davis: CodeChops doesnt do any hiring, but we are full of free lancers and small companies using the space. We have some events coming up of interest. To find whats going on at CodeChops, go to HYPERLINK "http://www.meetup.com/codechops" www.meetup.com/codechops and join, then you will receive a notice when events occur. On May 25, Darren Kitchen, who is currently touring in the Hack Across America project, will be at CodeChops for a talk. Afterward well go to Eugene Maker Space for a demo. Another item, a study group interested in databases has been meeting at CodeChops. Dennis Chong: Not a lot of changes at the organization level at this time. Company is doing well, we are hiring tech support staff. Looking for networking and computer user support skills, less programming skills needed at our site. Craig Gray: Not a lot of hiring going on now in IT. Not a lot of changes at this time. We are coming to the end of a large project where were rolling out WiFi and touch screens to several buildings. We are using Citrix and IP servers locally for data storage. Michael Finch: Were closing down operations in law enforcement, but starting up other things. We have a mobile project using AirWatch. We have demod it to management. Dont have BOYD policy now. We are focusing on iOS using a Citrix receiver. A new strategic plan for I.S. has been completed. John Barnum: We are not hiring, but we have a lot of LCC interns. We are downsizing square footage for financial reasons. Were using W7 and Office 2007. In the long term (within the next 12 months), we plan to move a portion of operations out of the building for a cost savings and ease of access for interns. We recently received 150 pallets of gear from a local person. Otto Radke: We dont have a large IT staff because the company is small. We are making enhancements to the online banking system. We have some problems with it because it is new, essentially beta. Two sets of auditors are coming next week. IV. BUSINESS/DISCUSSION College/Division Update Larry Scott said LCC in undergoing renewal in two areas. BuildingsWere at the tail end of the bond project. Downtown Center is done. There are changes to the Center Building (Student Learning Commons, Book Store, etc.). PeopleColleges V.P., Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Dean are leaving or are gone. These positions are being re-hired. Also, Larry said he is retiring at the end of the year. As a result of the high-level position transitions, the college is re-organizing. Another point to consider is that education is changing in general, for example, massively online courses are appearing with three thousand students in one course. At LCC, enrollment is down slightly. The good news is that CITs enrollment is stable. Another news item is that the IT author Jaron Lanier is coming to campus May 23 & 24 to make presentations and engage with students. The college would like the community also to engage with him as well. There will be a dinner Thursday evening that may be of interest to the advisory members or other community members. We will send you a flyer of the events. Program Highlight Computer Network Operations Degree Gary Bricher passed out info about the new network degree curriculum being implemented this Fall and discussed the changes. Comments from members included areas of importance such as change and configuration management, business analysis, systems analysis, project management, ability to write. Craig said including Python and CS 288 in the networking degree are very good ideas. Dennis said including more on port numbers is a very good idea, and not just memorizing port numbers but how to troubleshoot port number problems. Network Support Question (How do your organizations receive network support, in-house vs outsource, what kinds of network support?) Gary introduced this agenda item. Mark said they were too small and had no needs in this area. Dennis said 90-95% of their network support is outsourced to H.P., but they are moving to in-house support, but this is not confirmed yet. At the Springfield site, they have desktop support, but IT support is likely coming back to that site. They will need junior networking people in the future, but that is a ways off. John said their network support is often hired out. Craig said their network support is half in-house, half outsourced. Their core network is centralized at their data center. Michael said their network support is all internal. Their data center is shared with the City of Eugene and other partner agencies. OCCC Meeting Paul Wilkins mentioned that at the latest Oregon Council of Computer Chairs meeting he attended, it was mentioned that the new plan to have separate boards governing universities in the state will have little impact for community colleges. Certificates of Appreciation were presented by Larry and Otto to advisory members present whose terms expired with this meeting. All members were thanked for their attendance by Otto and the meeting adjourned at 5:00pm with the annual gala dinner to follow. eCopies: Advisory Committee Members efiklntv D F T V p 8 B L k n o | ڼƲƙƲƏƲƲvvh gPCJOJQJhvOCJOJQJ h<5h[)CJOJQJh:CJOJQJh<>*䴳ϴ<h<CJOJQJhtqCJOJQJhK CJOJQJhRCJOJQJhiCJOJQJh<5CJOJQJ\aJh<5CJOJQJ\.+BCfuvF 8 P Q m ./F & F $a$ $ ) Q V l m t u 5 > A k 46DP*.:^`-ججآآ؎h1ZCJOJQJh6CJOJQJhK[CJOJQJh*CJOJQJhBCJOJQJh gPCJOJQJh<CJOJQJaJhvOCJOJQJaJhRCJOJQJh_:CJOJQJhvOCJOJQJh<CJOJQJ/-./2F}~ #$)DXacĸРxxgx[[[[h4CJOJQJaJ hO0h6x0JTCJOJQJaJjh6xCJOJQJUaJhRCJOJQJaJh6xCJOJQJaJhSCJOJQJaJh6CJOJQJaJh gPCJOJQJaJhXMCJOJQJaJh<CJOJQJaJ h<5aJ h#K5aJh_CJOJQJh_CJOJQJaJ#,7;Z[ DEm012?PQfgku-ĸĬĠ|phMTCJOJQJaJhTCJOJQJaJhXMCJOJQJaJh[)CJOJQJaJh%QCJOJQJaJh|CJOJQJaJh<CJOJQJaJheCJOJQJaJh gPCJOJQJaJhnCJOJQJaJh6xCJOJQJaJh4CJOJQJaJ+12,-xy""##\$]$$$%^gdG & F0^`0gd5!%15pr8>o+,-s#$wxy !!!"""""I#J###\$ĺİئĜĦhkfCJOJQJhCJOJQJh5CJOJQJhGCJOJQJhXuCJOJQJhuCJOJQJhN7CJOJQJh4CJOJQJhZv$CJOJQJh%QCJOJQJh5CJOJQJh'Z CJOJQJ3\$$$$$$$%h<@CJOJQJhkfCJOJQJhGCJOJQJh<CJOJQJ?0P1h:pzbx/ =!"`#$% Dp^V 666666666vvvvvvvvv66666686666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~_HmH nH sH tH F`F Normal*$1$OJQJ_HmH sH tHXX Heading 1$a$ h*$$OJQJCJ@65RR Heading 2$a$ h*$$OJQJCJ@bb Heading 3"$a$ h*$^]`0$OJQJCJ@5VV Heading 4$a$ h*$$OJQJCJ@5rr Heading 54$a$ & 8Tp$ $OJQJCJ5\ Heading 6Z@& & F & F$a$ ,hTp$ *$^]`h$OJQJCJ@5tt Heading 75 & F$a$ Tp$ $OJQJCJ5\ Heading 8C$a$ 2hv8Tp$ *$$OJQJCJ@5D @D Heading 9 $OJQJCJ5\DA D Default Paragraph FontViV 0 Table Normal :V 44 la (k ( 0No List 0/0 WW8Num3z1562/2 WW8Num3z2OJQJ2/2 WW8Num3z3OJQJ2/!2 WW8Num3z4OJQJ2/12 WW8Num4z0OJQJ6/A6 WW8Num4z1 CJOJQJ2/Q2 WW8Num4z2OJQJDA aD Default Paragraph Font:/q: WW8Num1z0CJOJQJaJ6/6 WW8Num1z1 OJQJ^J2/2 WW8Num1z2OJQJ2/2 WW8Num1z3OJQJ:/: WW8Num2z0CJOJQJaJ6/6 WW8Num2z1 OJQJ^J2/2 WW8Num2z2OJQJ2/2 WW8Num2z3OJQJ:/: WW8Num3z0CJOJQJaJ:/: WW8Num6z0CJOJQJaJ:/: WW8Num7z0CJOJQJaJ6/!6 WW8Num7z1 OJQJ^J2/12 WW8Num7z2OJQJ2/A2 WW8Num7z3OJQJ:/Q: WW8Num8z0CJOJQJaJ</a< WW8Num10z0CJOJQJaJ</q< WW8Num11z0CJOJQJaJ2/2 WW8Num12z1564/4 WW8Num12z2OJQJ4/4 WW8Num12z3OJQJ4/4 WW8Num12z4OJQJ</< WW8Num13z0CJOJQJaJ8/8 WW8Num13z1 OJQJ^J4/4 WW8Num13z2OJQJ4/4 WW8Num13z3OJQJ4/4 WW8Num15z0OJQJ8/8 WW8Num15z1 CJOJQJJ/!J WW-Default Paragraph Font:/1: _Equation CaptionN/AN Balloon Text CharCJOJQJ^JaJ.X Q.
